Reflect on the ancient observance of Passover, and learn a new Hebrew word each day. Each one went straight ahead; they did not turn as they moved. They each had two wings spreading out upward, each wing touching that of the databricks karat interview on either side; and each had two other wings covering its body.

Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they went. Fire moved back and forth among the creatures; it was bright, and lightning flashed out of it. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. When they stood still, they lowered their wings. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking. All rights reserved worldwide.

Text: Be still and know. It is designed to involve and engage the audience congregation in celebration as they join the choir in singing. Many of the songs have specific places where the congregation worships with the choir. Some offer the opportunity to sing along on the entire song.

The Accompaniment DVD clearly labels where the congregation is invited to sing and where the choir sings alone. Lyric Files are also available to accomplish this if not using the DVD.

Young Adult Ministry. Student Ministry. When Ezekiel saw a vision of God, his immediate response was to fall to the ground in an act of humility. Scriptures: Ezekiel Wake up calls are common when we travel. We call the hotel's front desk and we tell them when we want to be awakened.

The next morning, the phone rings at the appropriate time, and a computer-generated voice can be heard telling us the time. Sometimes wake up calls come in other forms. Our boss telling us one more mistake, and we are fired. Flunking out of school. A near brush with death. Sometimes we are awakened in the middle of the night, by a knock on the front door or a phone ringing or a child crying or an animal prowling or by a dream.

Such was Ezekiel. Ezekiel isn't on the list of history's best-known figures. If people have any knowledge of him, it's probably from the folk song, "Dry Bones," rather than the Bible. No biography exists of him, but we do know he lived in Babylon about B. He was the first prophet in captivity.

Some scholars, eager to discredit him, picture Ezekiel as mentally unbalanced, a victim of paranoia and hallucinations. Conservative scholars see him as a faithful spokesman for God, with whom the Lord communicated through strange visions. Our text is the first half of the second chapter.

The first chapter is fascinating. Read it for pleasure and for edification. Ezekiel is trying to describe the indescribable—his vision of the glory of the Lord. He describes four living creatures, each with four faces and four wings.

In the middle of these creatures, there was fire and lightning. Each of the four creatures had a wheel—a wheel within a wheel. When the creatures moved, the wheels moved with them. Above the creatures was a dome, shining like crystal. Above the dome, there was a sapphire-like throne. The Lord was there. It is no wonder that Ezekiel was reduced to using such odd images to describe his vision.

How can you describe something when the person for whom you are describing them has no frame of reference for understanding your description? For instance, how would you describe the color blue to a blind person who had never seen colors? He was just trying to describe something indescribable—the glory of God. This, then, would be or B.

A bit of background would be useful. Later, Babylonia surpassed Assyria to become the dominant power, and King Nebuchadnezzar ruled supreme. In December B.

Jehoiakim died, possibly by assassination, and young Jehoiachin assumed the throne. In B. This time he destroyed the city and killed many of its inhabitants. He took most of the rest of the people to Babylon—leaving behind only the poorest 2 Kings The book of Ezekiel refers to these Judeans as the people of Israel.

In the last verse of chapter 1, Ezekiel acknowledges that he has seen the glory of the Lord. Throughout the book of Ezekiel, Yahweh always refers to Ezekiel as ben adam rather than calling him by name. This stands in contrast to the call of other prophets, such as Moses ExodusSamuel 1 SamuelElijah 1 KingsJeremiah Jeremiahand Amos Amos —each of whom Yahweh addressed by name when calling them to be prophets.

In the New Testament, Jesus frequently referred to himself as the Son of Man Matthew; ; ;32, 40; etc. God now calls him to stand on his feet to receive his marching orders. The word ruah can mean spirit, wind, or breath. The spirit of the Lord came even on a foreign prophet, Balaam, to enable Balaam to utter the oracle that the Lord gave him Numbers They and their fathers have transgressed against me even to this very day.

The people of Israel began their rebellion against Yahweh almost immediately after being freed from Egyptian slavery:. Why have you treated us this way, to bring us out of Egypt?

In this verse, the word goyim is plural, meaning nations. No claims of absolute originality are made for this material. As one man said, "I milk a lot of cows, but I churn my own butter. Five years later, in BC, Ezekiel was third when he was called into the ministry.

The ministry of Ezekiel was marked by a series of visions.

One of those visions will be the focus of our time together today. I have heard it used to preach about the need for revival in the church. That is a valid use of this passage. Yet, we need to remember that God is not speaking to the church in those verses. He is speaking to the nation of Israel, v. He sees them as a dead nation. He promises this dead nation that a day will come when He will raise them from the dead and use them again for His glory. When Ezekiel received this vision, he found himself surrounded by the bones of the dead.

Everywhere he looked he saw dead people. He was commanded to preach to them. And, he was commanded to pray over them. Like Ezekiel, we are surrounded by the dead. Everywhere we look there is evidence of the spiritual death that dominates our world.

And, like Ezekiel, we have been given sent out to tell the dead that they can live. From where Ezekiel stood that day, his task must have seemed impossible. Yet, he obeyed God and the Lord blessed his efforts. From where we stand today, the task of reaching those who are dead in sin also seems like and impossible task. If we will do as the Lord has commanded us, we will also see Him bless our efforts.

I want you to see some truths that speak to our call to preach the Gospel to a world filled with the living dead. Consider these truths with me today. If we are going to sense the great need the world around us has to hear the Gospel, we must have a clear grasp of the condition in which the world finds itself.

The vision Ezekiel saw was of a valley full of dry, scattered bones. It depicted the desolation, destitution, and devastation of Israel.

Until we have a similar vision of the world in which we live we will not be stirred to action. We need to see what Ezekiel saw when he looked out over that valley of dry bones. It is the same vision we need today as we look out over a lost, dead world. SInce so many bones were in one place, it may be that Ezekiel saw the aftermath of a great battle. If that is the case, it must have broken his heart. And so, says Lewis, there you have the mixture of timeless longing and trendy cynicism which characterizes much of the Western mind-set and personality today.

And knowing this God, the only God, is not a matter of doing this or that course. It is not just acquisitive. It is responsive. To know the God who has shown himself is to respond in personhood, penitence and devotion. V 1: 5 years after that: the reality has sunk in: think of the despair, trying hard to remember what it was like, and not just hard to remember what Jerusalem was like. You know how many groups of immigrants — and it began with the British income to this country and live in a time warp.

However, for the Jews in Babylon, although they sat down by the river and wept when they remembered Zion, there was something even more confronting than just the fact they had been deported and their land scorched.

In a culture of luxury and power, where every street corner spoke of opulence and the marvellous creativity of humans, the root of it all was clear — and it was NOT the Lord God of Israel. He had lost. He had been struck dumb. There was no statue to him on every street corner.

There was no word for the people God had taken as his own. The heavens were silent. And the despair grew as dark as a starless Babylonian night seen from the bank of the Chebar canal.

He is a prophet of the Lord, who is to speak the words of God to the people of God. They are the usual phrases and in a sense we ought now to expect he would get on with the job of speaking to the people. But God, whose aim in speaking was that those who had forgotten and suppressed and rebelled against the true and living God should know that he is the LORD, gives his servant something more:.

Ezekiel ESV 4 As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming metal. And they rule — they are monarchs, sovereigns, ceaselessly moving through the earth as they control it.

NB : Not about engineering! Impression of unstoppable omnipotent and universal power over all the earth. These creatures owe allegiance to someone who really is unstoppable, omnipotent omnipresent and omniscient. Someone who is not just a greater creature, not someone who is part of the creation, but someone who is above it.

Who has made it, who has set the creatures as kind of rulers under his own rulership. That they ought to bow the knee to him and not see him as just another resource for getting through the complexities of life? All around Ez. Was a reminder that human beings think it IS the other way round. A reminder that the human race, though capable of the most amazing arch, literary, aesthetic, technological, scientific achievements, has a desperately wicked heart.

God who is sovereign over all the earth — even in what appeared to be god-forsaken Babylon and the slum that was Tel Arbib. God who is not a topic in a text book, but the true and living God before whom humans are to fall. Before whom my creatureliness is shown, and my merely acquisitive desire to know God is exposed as the pretence it actually is.

Ezekiel We begin with chapter 3, Ezekiel chapter Moreover the Lord said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that roll. And He said unto me, Son of man, cause thy stomach to eat, and fill thy body with this roll that I give thee.

Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness. The message was one of judgment and condemnation. And He said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak My words unto them. But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto Me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.

Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead:.

Go, get thee to them of the captivity, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord God; whether they will hear, or whether they will forebear. Whether they will listen and heed, or whether they will not listen and pay no attention.

The preaching of Ezekielnumber one: he was called to be a messenger of God, to deliver the word of God. This is the scroll, this is the word from heaven, take it, assimilate it, make it a part of your mind, and your heart, and your soul, and your body, and your life, and deliver the message of God. That is, he is not to initiate His word, nor is he to invent His message: he is called of God to deliver the word of the Lord.

In my youthful days, there was a tremendously popular and famous modernist, liberal by the name of Harry Emerson Fosdick, who preached at the Riverside Church in New York City. And he said, decrying the method of expository preaching, preaching the Word of God, and describing it as the poorest kind of pulpit ministry because, he said, it gave no scope for the imagination of the preacher.

So to him, to stand in the pulpit and to preach is to deliver what he thinks: to philosophize on situations that come to his attention. But the Word of God falls in an altogether different area.

You take this scroll, this roll of the message of the God, and you deliver it to the people, whether they will hear or whether they will forebear [Ezekiel ]whether they will listen and heed, or whether they will make no make no response and pay no attention, you are called to deliver the Word of the Lord.

Now, to my amazement, His message is filled with the extensive possibility of abject and absolute failure. You are not going to be adulated and recognized, glorified, received with accolades. And their looks will be so foreboding and threatening that you will be dismayed before them [Ezekiel ]. But the remarkable thing is the rebellious response to the preaching of the prophet in no way and in nowise disannulled his prophetic ministry. And Ezekiel stood before the people, and the Lord made his forehead as flint, as adamant [Ezekiel ].

They will not listen to you [Ezekiel ]. Heed him?Radio Streams. SA Radio. VCY America. My Favorite Things.
