Make sure the Caps Lock key isn't active when you type in your password. That or any change in capitalization renders your case-sensitive password unacceptable. Resetting an administrator account isn't difficult, as long as you have a second administrator account to use. It's a good idea to have a second administrator account set up for troubleshooting various issues, including forgetting a password.
Of course, that only works butoi cu apa calda you haven't also forgotten the password for the other administrator account. If you don't remember that password either, try one of the other methods outlined below. Click the lock icon in the bottom left corner of the preference pane and enter your administrator password.
In the left-hand pane, select the administrator account whose password needs to be reset. In the screen that drops down, enter a new password for the account, verify it, and provide an optional password hint, if desired.
Resetting the password this way creates a new keychain file for the user account. If you want to use the old keychain file, see the instructions below. You can use this feature to reset the password for any user account type, including a standard account, managed account, or sharing account. You would have associated your Apple ID with your user account either when you initially set up your Mac or when you added user accounts.
Enter your password incorrectly three times at the login screen. You'll see a message that displays your password hint if you set one up, and the option to reset your password using your Apple ID. But, unless you set up your Mac properly, it just takes a reboot and a few seconds to bypass your password — or wipe your hard drive. This would allow anyone with access to your Mac the ability to change your password and access your user account, although FileVault encryption can protect against it.
However, it means a thief can quickly wipe your Mac and start using it. Modern versions of FileVault encryption provides whole-disk encryption of your Mac. FileVault encryption also protects your files if people try to boot another operating system on your Mac or remove its system drive and read it in another computer. If you chose to share it with Apple during the FileVault setup process, they can help you regain access to your files.
Even with FileVault enabled, someone with access to your Mac could still wipe it from recovery mode and set it up as a new system. A firmware password can protect against this.
Someone could still rip the hard drive out of your Mac and access its files on another device if you just use a firmware password without encryption, however. If you do set a firmware password, be extra careful to remember it. But you can set that firmware password ahead of time. Any Mac running a previous version of OS X will still be vulnerable unless their owners have gone out of their way to enable FileVault encryption.

Take it to an Apple Genius Bar to have the "hardware" lock removed. Only the OS admin password can be reset by the user. Dec 3, PM.
From what Ive read its because theres a firmware password on the computer. So if I take it to the genius bar they will erase everything? Does it cost anything? The idea behind making the firmware password only removable by Apple, is partly to make stolen Macs less usable by a thief. No, the computer is not registered to me. I bought it used from an individual today.
Him and his wife are trying to locate the firmware password, but as of yet have been unsuccessful. What are my options being that the computer is not registered to me? Why would apple care if it was registered to me or not, wouldn't the serial number be reported as stolen if the computer in fact had been stolen?
How to Reset Password on Mac | macOS Mojave & Catalina 2020
It depends on the person, I suppose. But ordinarily Apple is pretty supportive of authorized persons only having access to a laptop's contents when the owner has set a firmware password. One has to understand that a firmware password's purpose is to protect. It would serve no purpose if anyone could simply ask that the protection be removed. The service to remove the protection is a benefit only afforded to legitimate owners.
The seller should have released his registration the moment it was sold.Even if you aren't a sinister evildoer, there could be times when you need to get into a computer without the password. It's quite easy to do on a Mac, and learning how to do it can help you keep yourself better protected, too. Here's how it works.

Knowing evil means knowing how to beat it, so you can use your sinister powers for good. Want more? Check out our evil week tag page. Most methods of breaking into a Mac are variations on the same thing, so we're going to highlight the two easiest ways—one with a Mac OS X installer and one without—and show you how to avoid having them used on you.
Note that while these two methods will get you into the OS without knowing the password, you can always just use our previously mentioned " lazy method " with a Mac too—just boot up the computer with a Linux Live CD and start grabbing files.
Both methods outline ways to reset the Mac OS X password. While there are cracking utilities like John the Ripper or THC-Hydrathey're either complicated to use or expensive to buy, so we won't go into them here like we did with Windows which has the very easy-to-use Ophcrack. Just insert the CD into the target Mac and hold the "c" key as you boot up the computer.
It will boot into the Mac OS X installer. If the computer in question doesn't have a CD drive, you can either hold "Option" at boot and choose the Recovery partition at startup, or put the Mavericks or Yosemite installer on a flash drive.
Once it does, head up to Utilities in the menu bar and choose Password Reset. You'll get a window prompting you to select the drive on which OS X is installed; so choose the drive you want to get into and select the user whose password you want from the drop-down menu. Note: If you're using the Mountain Lion installer or later, you won't see this menu item. Instead, choose Terminal from the menu, type in resetpasswordand press Enter to get to the password reset menu.
Enter a new password for that user and hit the save button. That's it! When you reboot the computer, you can use your new password to log into the computer. Note that unfortunately, you still won't be able to unlock the Keychain, so if what you're trying to access has another layer of password protection, you need to do some extra legwork to view it. If you don't have an installer CD handy, you just need to do a bit of fancy command-line footwork to achieve the same end as the CD method. The Mac will boot into single user mode, giving you a command prompt after loading everything up.
If the Mac is running Snow Leopard or below, type the following commands, hitting Enter after each one and waiting for the prompt to come up again before running the next one:.Mobile Phone Repairing Machines, These range from simple level repair tools to professional-grade tools to To make it easier for you A MacBook Air is locked by pin code and firmware, the model is A, the motherboard model is A, which is release in Press the MacBook power button, after entering the system, it shows PIN code lock, press the "Option" button, it shows firmware lock.
When the MacBook screen is lit up, you will see the firmware lock interface. The firmware lock we're talking about is actually the motherboard password hardware passwordit can't be removed by reinstalling the system. To unlock it, we need to read the data inside the BIOS chip, and then use proprietary software to remove the inside password, and then re-write information to the BIOS chip.
Because generally the BIOS chip is on the backside of the MacBook motherboard, it's complicated to remove it to read and write, so we can use special tool to read and write BIOS information without removing the MacBook motherboard. And then find SAM connector 1 Pin. Find the SAM connector on the bitmap, the first pin for this connector is grounding, we can use digital multimeter to measure the first pin.
